The Western Eleia Hoteliers’ Associations is a not-for-profit association based in Vartholomio whose members are businessmen in the tourism industry operating in the Western Peloponnese Regional Unit, and in particular in the municipalities of Andravida-Kyllini, Pinios and Archaia Ilida.

The Association’s main objective is to safeguard the socio-economic and professional interests of its members while serving society as a whole, by promoting the area as a tourist destination, cooperating with local and other authorities and the state, and also creating and fostering a sense of professional and tourism awareness and trade union spirit among members of the Association.

Today the Association represents 60% of hoteliers in the Region. For many years our Association has played an important and definitive role in developing tourism and the wider area in general, and will continue to offer its services to society as a whole in the wider area, in a reliable and decisive manner, keenly aware of our responsibility in this regard.

While staying in our area why not take a short trip to nearby towns like Gastouni, Vartholomio, Kyllini, Amaliada or Pyrgos, or visit tourist resorts like Glyfa, Arkoudi, Kastro, Thines Vartholomio, Kourouta, Palouki, Agios Andreas or Katakolo, or even archaeological sites such as Ancient Elis or Ancient Olympia, that will offer you countless options for fun such as   ouzo bars and ordinary bars, cafes, and different types of restaurants such as taverns, pizzerias, fish taverns, rotisseries, and so on. For special nights out, try the local night clubs during the summer months where you can dance the night away, or why not attend unforgettable beach parties next to the sea!

The monastery is located in the village of Lygia. Since Christians were at great risk of attack by pirates during the Byzantine period, the discovery of the icon of the Virgin (the Panagia Eleousa) was taken as an important sign and the monastery was built on this site in the 9th century AD. The feast day of the Virgin is celebrated on 30 and 31 August each year with religious ceremonies and a major celebration. Visitors are also recommended to attend mass celebrated in accordance with the Byzantine rite at the monastery over the Easter period.

The temple of Apollo Epicurius at Bassae, Figaleia, is one of the most important and imposing temples of antiquity. The local people of Figaleia dedicated it to Apollo Epicurius (the helper) because he assisted them in overcoming an outbreak of plague. The temple stands at an impressive 1,130 m above sea level in the very heart of the Peloponnese on mountains that lie between the prefectures of Eleia, Arcadia and Messinia. It is situated 14 km south of Andritsena and 11 km northwest of Perivolia. The temple was built in the second half of the 5th century BC (420-410 BC) and has been attributed Iktinos, the architect who designed the Parthenon. This is a monument of global importance and also one of the best preserved ruins from classical antiquity and was the first site in Greece to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1986. Part of the frieze from the temple was broken off in 1814 and is now on display in the British Museum in London.
